Well, we have finally booked our tickets to Nicaragua! We are going for 3 whole weeks and are going to explore a good chunk of the country.
Booking flights is always the most stressful part but I got a good deal. To do so involved monitoring flight costs for 2 people from Vancouver, Canada to Managua, Nicaragua for about a month. Flights with great times and less stops ran about $3000 for the two of us round trip. We didn’t buy those. We got a flight with multiple stops. The way there is pretty direct and seems to be the same route and stops as all the expensive flights, the way back however involves 7 hours waiting at LAX during the middle of the night. Can’t wait, especially as that is our favourite airport too! (sarcasm). All said and done we got tickets for under 2 grand, woot. Since Nicaragua is so cheap the flights are by far the most expensive portion of the trip, it only gets better from here.
I ended up using expedia.ca for anybody reading this. Cheaptickets.com had a better price and a better flight but once I tried to buy them they magically disappeared, became more expensive and a much worse flight. Hopefully the flights all work out, but no matter what both days will be very long travel days. 13 hours of flights to get there and then of course traveling to and from airport and arriving early etc. Coming back 16 hours of flight/wait time in airports. I’m not looking forward to the flying portion of the trip.
Stay tuned as more details become available. Next on the list aside from reading the guidebooks until memorized and planning the trip, is learning more spanish and getting vaccinations.
