Today we slept in until 8 it was awesome. So far I´ve gotten up before my normal wake up on every single day. We chilled in the hostal, had the free pancake breakfast you can make and chatted with a couple from Quebec that had just come from Esteli. We have somewhat of the same plans as them so we´re excited to have a good time there after hearing their reviews. Eventually we checked out by 11, got the desk clerk, Carlos, to call the next hostal we had heard about in Esteli, and book us a room for two nights.
Caught a cab a little bit later to the bus station and watched the bus for Esteli pull up in front of us. Bought some tickets, $3 each, grabbed a pop for the road and a little bag of cashews and headed to Esteli. The bus was hot to start but after half an hour or so the temperature already started changing to something more agreeable.
The views out the window were great of the Volcanoes as we passed them by. It is different to see flat land, and then a perfect volcano, then flat again, not like mountain ranges at all. The trip to Esteli was 2.5 hours, a little more because of some construction on the road, but after the construction was a freshly paved highway, very nice.
Now we´re in Esteli staying at the Hospedaje Luna, which is small, but very clean and very nice. The staff is friendly although does not speak english like the ads say. My spanish is having to be attempted more and more and doesn´t always work right.
We were starving so got some food at a Cuban restaurant of all places and then toured the town. late afternoon lunch for two people, under $10. Then we walked the shops and saw the cool murals and colours of all the walls. Lots of people milling about and saw lots of cafes and the like we´ll try out tomorrow when we go shopping and eating again. I need shorts as I somehow got up from a chair and ripped the seat out, not the chair seat:)
Now we sit in a cyber cafe and it is warm so I need some water, got to go buy that, didn´t see any grocery stores though…
Oh the toilet paper thing. For some reason I have yet to find out why they don´t flush toilet paper. Everything else can go down, but toilet paper goes in the garbage can beside the toilet. A very strange and smelly practice that I don´t get. I´ll let you know when I find out.
