Today I opened up ticket number 5 on the beer train and discovered words that scare me, Brett and Saison. The beer was Central City’s: The Dominator Brett Saison and I cringed a bit. I’m not really a fan of Saisons at all, except for one or two gems I’ve tried in the summer months, and the yeast strain Brett, equals some sort of sour, which is not good. All that being said, this was pretty good. If I came across this in the summer months I would drink it. It wasn’t sour, wasn’t overly Saison like, and generally good. It has a very fruity taste, with many lemony and citrus flavours and the light body makes it go down super easy as a Saison should. One should be careful however, as it has a pretty high alcohol content for a Saison at 6.5%. Overall it is a very complex beer that was quite surprising. I shall look at Brett a little less suspiciously in the future. On to the next stop.
